The Simians of Swing are no ordinary jazz group; they are story tellers in the great comic book tradition. Each number on this album is a soundtrack to a hero or villain; some of the characters are good, most are bad … but all are legends with tales of revenge, tragedy and romance. Set in a post-apocalyptic world the Simians narrate their stories through the medium of jazz.
As for the Simians themselves, they are led by two urban warriors: Andy ‘Monkey’ Davies and Lorenzo Bassignani. Based in London, ‘Monkey’ is a trumpet player who dabbles in the magical American art form of Bebop. He also possesses deadly martial art skills, acquired while working for the Russian mafia back in the Cold War. Deadly with a trumpet, it is said he once kayoed a man out with a rendition of Charlie Parker’s ‘Confirmation’. The chump still hasn’t got up. ‘Lama’ is a bass player by night. By day he is always busy playing chess on his own, practicing his trade and meditating about the role of bass frequenicies in current geopolitics. Their associates for this album are hand-picked elite mercenaries: Benet ‘The Buffalo’ Mclean, Ivo Neame and Sam Leak on piano duty. Luca Boscagin and Ant Law on guitar. The beautiful Polly Gibbons is on vocals, while Saleem Raman on drums completes the line-up. Wicked. This album is not for the faint hearted; eleven villainous tales of the macabre. If you make it to the end …and that’s a big ‘if’ …we hope you’ve enjoyed it. Peace and Revolution The Simians of Swing Website: http://www.simiansofswing.co.uk/

Melbourne’s acclaimed rhythmic soul vocal artist Carmen Hendricks has released her long anticipated sophomore album “Timing”, following her successful debut “Rhythmic Soul Revealed” in 2010.
A unique blend of Gospel, Latin and Jazz with a Soul infusion, “Timing” showcases Hendricks’ rich vocal talent with all songs self-written and produced over 2 years. A collection of 10 tracks inspired by Hendricks’ own artistic journey from debut to follow up album, “Timing” includes the title track – a personal belief of things happening at the right time if you get out of the way and let the universe lead you, along with standouts “How Many Times” – an ode to self-love and respect and “Stella By Starlight” - a modern take on a classic jazz standard. Born in Capetown, South Africa and introduced at an early age to artist such as Al Jarreau, George Benson and Earth Wind & Fire by her music-loving parents. Carmen performed her first “professional gig” at the age of 5, singing a bride down the aisle with a rendition of The Carpenters classic “We’ve Only Just Begun.” Immigrating to Melbourne in 1989 and escaping the violence of apartheid and civil unrest in her native country, Australia provided the opportunity for Hendricks to foster her talent and thrive in the city’s vibrant arts and entertainment community. In addition to her self-produced solo gigs, Carmen has performed and toured with Australian R&B artist Daniel Merriweather, Australian pop singer/actress Christine Anu, and the acclaimed Australian singer Kate Ceberano. Carmen collaborated with UK act SupaFly, releasing the international hit single “Moving Too Fast”, which ranked #4 on the US Dance Charts, #1 on the UK Dance Charts and Top 10 on the Australian charts. In 2015 the album Timing ranked in the top 3 on the UK Soul Chart. The album track titled “I Will Not Let You Go” became a UK favorite. The single ranked #1 on UK Colourful Radio Chart. Carmen was chosen by Tower Records Japan as best new soul artist. Timing was distributed in Japan and sold in over 80 Tower Records Japan retail stores. A regular performer on Channel Ten’s “Good Morning Australia” 2004-2006, Carmen has also performed live on tour with Kanye West (Australian Tour 2006) and Kelly Rowland (Australian Tour 2007). Carmen toured Europe in June 2015. She performed as one of the featured artist on the 2015 Soul City Tour in Paris, Amsterdam, London, Manachester and Birimingham. Carmen is committed to her musical journey and she lives by a deep spiritual force driven by a personal philosophy to “be present and create my world with the talent I have been given and uplift as many people as I can – if only for the moment.” Carmen is currently in the studio working on her third album.
